The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (Mouse Facility - Transgenic facility)

GENERAL INFORMATION

Description and purpose of the Research Infrastructure
The Facility generates genetically modified mouse models using different techniques. It contains state-of-the-art microinjection and embryonic stem cell culture facilities Genetically modified mice are of tremendous importance in fundamental and clinical research and are the model of choice for investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying specific human diseases in a whole-organism environment. Genetic alterations in mice can be used to establish new mouse models or to improve existing ones. The use of such highly specific mouse models reduces the time and the number of animals required to obtain clinically relevant results.
