GENERAL INFORMATION

Description and purpose of the Research Infrastructure

The Neurophysiology Department of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics is dedicated to pursuing excellence across innovative biomedical research, postgraduate education, and clinical care services to advance health equity and wellness for people in Cyprus. The clinical Neurophysiology laboratory focuses on the areas of Neurophysiology of the central and peripheral nervous system disorders and it has been a pioneer by providing a unique service to patients such as long-term monitoring electroencephalography (EEG). It also offers routine EEG, multimodal evoked potentials (MEPs, SEPs, VEPs, AEPs), vagus nerve stimulation monitoring, and neuropsychological assessment. Furthermore, the department has a special interest in Epilepsy biomedical research by studying imaging genetics and EEG oscillations to identify the genetic underpinnings of imaging and EEG phenotypes in patients with epilepsy. Moreover, it evaluates the clinical spectrum of CADASIL disease in Cyprus. In addition, it applies innovative clinical research on the prevention and relief of Dementia and Frailty through its participation in the European study Comfortage, and takes part in a small-scale clinical study on the effect of probiotics on cognitive functioning of patients with early-stage Alzheimer’s Disease.
