CAT Lab (Cyprus Acquisition Team)

GENERAL INFORMATION

Description and purpose of the Research Infrastructure

The CAT Lab provides a meeting and research space for the Cyprus Acquisition Team (CAT). Founded in 2008, members of CAT explore language acquisition and development in Cyprus, with emphasis on (Cypriot) Greek, English, and Russian. Over the years, CAT research has extended to: (i) first, bilingual, heritage, and second language acquisition (ii) in monolingual, bilectal, and multilingual environments (iii) with toddlers, children, and adolescents (iv) for typical, atypical, and impaired language development. CAT has participated in several COST actions (European research networks), members were partners in various local and international research projects, and we have hosted a range of research activities ourselves, including funding from the European Commission, the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation and the renamed Research and Innovation Foundation, the Leventis Foundation, and the University of Cyprus. The CAT Lab hosts regular lectures and tutorials as well as small class lectures in the BA and MA programs of the Department of English Studies. The Cyprus Acquisition Team meets regularly.
