CYENS Centre of Excellence

CYENS CoE is the Research Centre of Excellence in Cyprus in the area of Information and Communication Technologies focusing on Interactive media, Smart systems, and Emerging technologies. The Centre of Excellence fosters world-class research activities and at the same time aims to serve as a paradigm for bridging scientific research with innovation outside academia. It is a joint venture between the three public universities of Cyprus (University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology, Open University of Cyprus), the Municipality of Nicosia, and two renowned international partners, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (Germany) and University College London (UK).CYENS CoE is designed to act as an integrator of academic research and innovation, towards the sustainable fueling of scientific, technological and economic growth of Cyprus and Europe, empowering knowledge and technology transfer in the region. State of the art facilities and equipment are available for big data and deep learning, computer vision, augmented and virtual reality and computer graphics, amongst others, as well as a fully functional creative space. The Centre`s Thinkermakerspace is a multifunctional creative space that supports local entrepreneurs, designers, artists, and researchers. TMS promotes technology led innovation by encouraging the local creative community to develop projects that utilize digital fabrication techniques and rapid prototyping. The space is open to the public under a membership program, offering easy and free access to cutting-edge equipment and professional technical support. TMS organizes various exhibitions and delivers numerous talks and workshops.
