Policy on Research Infrastructures
According to the Ministry’s policy, the creation and upgrading of the essential Research Infrastructures and research equipment, as well as the promotion and facilitation of cross-border collaboration and access to pan-European and international research infrastructures, including the infrastructures of the European Strategic Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) Roadmap, is of great importance. In addition, particular attention is being paid to the optimal use of domestic research infrastructures and laboratories by the full range of potential users from academia, the research community and the business world at both national and regional level.
What are Research Infrastructures?
Research Infrastructures are facilities, scientific equipment, scientific resources and services that contribute to the creation, management and exploitation of knowledge in order to facilitate the conduct of research activity and promote innovation. Depending on their structure and purpose, Research Infrastructures shall include scientific tools, scientific databases, archival collections as well as computing systems, software, communication networks and systems to promote Open Access to scientific data and information.
Recovery and Resilience Plan:
The Research Infrastructures Platform has been created under the measure "Introduce policies and incentives to facilitate and foster access to publicly funded research infrastructure and laboratories", which is included in the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), implemented with funding by the EU Recovery and Resilience Mechanism - NextGenerationEU. This measure falls under the RRP axis that promotes the strengthening of the resilience and competitiveness of the economy. The objective of the measure in the Recovery Plan is to optimise the use of publicly funded research infrastructure and laboratories by the business community. The reform consists in the development and operation of a dynamic digital tool accessible to all stakeholders in the R&I ecosystem, which will ensure the circulation of information, tools and services to facilitate collaboration between different R&I organisations and groups (public and private) in respect to publicly funded research infrastructure and laboratories. The measure aims additionally at introducing measures and incentives to enhance the cooperation of research organisations with enterprises and spin-offs.
